Since this map has been popping up on Facebook and Reddit and shared by many Torontonians who care deeply about their city, I feel however that the comparisons are unfair, especially pitting the TTC Subway and RT system against New York, Paris, and London with long-established infrastructure and populations over 8 million.

In response, I thought I should make a hastily-conjured up comparison maps of Chicago and Toronto.

These two cities are considered “Sister Cities” because they have the same population, the same urban area, both are Great Lakes Cities, and both have some connection with rapid transit (TTC considered buying Chicago CTA rolling stock). Both cities have much to share and I’ve seen it; Highway 401 is inspired by Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway. Both have two airports, and two very tall buildings.

Yet, Toronto, has more ridership numbers per day, yet lacking considerably in track mileage and coverage.
